House at Seymour Road, Newton Abbot
This new house in the grounds of a Victorian villa was designed to remain subservient to the main two storey house. The concept was to create a low, ground-hugging building situated behind a stone ‘garden’ wall. Limited openings in this wall element provide access from the original carriage drive so that the new house is private, separate and unseen from the main entrance to the historic site. The rear of the building has a totally different open, light character which relates to its secluded garden location. The project is nearing completion presently despite appalling weather conditions in early 2014.
